Focus areas are how COBIT zooms in on a topic — cybersecurity, DevOps, cloud — without abandoning the core model. They are the framework's specialised lenses.

A focus area in COBIT 2019 is a specific governance subject that can be described using a tailored selection and elaboration of the framework's objectives and components. Rather than a one-size view, focus areas let COBIT apply its model to a particular domain in depth.

COBIT focus areas have addressed topics such as information and technology security, risk, DevOps, cloud computing, and the needs of small and medium enterprises.
